!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I have a Ranger Edge 2wd, which is a 4x4 Ranger without the front axle or transfercase. I see the mounting points where all this stuff would go. I know it’d be easier to just sell this and buy a 4x4 but it might actually be cheaper to do it myself.

I’d need to get a transfercase, driveshaft and probobally a 4x4 transmission for this to work.

don’t forget you’ll need a shorter REAR driveshaft because of the transfercase taking up space in the driveline.

You’ll also obviously need controls inside the cab.

Thats a good price for a frony assay, but don’t forget shipping. My buddy is looking for a near rear axle to convert his frontier to PRO4x spec and he’s finding the axles, but the shipping doubles the cost.

Good point on the rear axle. Didn’t think about that.

I’d probably get an older manual transfer case rather than figuring out the electronic one, but it would look stock if I did bother with it.

After I typed this I saw that. I wonder if they have any nissan axles...

It’s possible you could find someone to trade online (or trade plus cash). Some people, myself included prefer their small trucks to be rwd. It would probably be a rewarding learning experience to do it yourself though.

I prefer the old manual shifter ones vs push button and yes, I’ve owned both haha.

yeah no one thinks about the rear driveshaft being shorter on 4x4's but you’re going to have a bad time when you go to hook everything back up if it’s not shortened or replaced with a 4x4 one.

I could just drive it fwd until I get the rear axle cut/ one off a 4x4.

Unfortunately rangers ditched manual controlled 4x4 before 90's, maybe a manual transfer case out of an F150 could work

It’s possible. Although I feel like any trade offers I’d get would be piles. My Ranger is pretty nice, I like having a straight body and things like that.

I think I could do it myself. Would be a little challenging but it’s really just bolt on parts.

Maybe it’d just make more sense to SAS.

Yeah, I’m sure I could get something to work.

Sounds like more work, but would be cooler.

I mean I’m taking everything out anyway. Maybe an XJ cherokee axle would fit? Same bolt pattern and I know they’re weak but still serviceable.

This is true, but you probably would have thrown a few curse words around haha

Bang for the buck, you may be better off putting a 2" lift, 33" tires, gears and a locker in your rear axle leaving it 2wd.

You’re right. I just don’t see the point in lifting a 2wd. But a locker sounds fun some nice a/t.
